Barrel end mills
Barrel end mills are an excellent alternative when finishing 3D geometry to ball nose end mills. A large radius (RE2 – leaflet) accounts for a significant reduction in the number of tool passes, and thus a reduction in machining time. In addition, a larger machining edge radius and fewer passes measurably affect the quality of the surface obtained. Barrel mills are mainly intended for processes on 5-axis machine tools using the strategy of simultaneous milling.
It should be taken into consideration that in order to effectively use a barrel end mill, it is necessary to properly program the CNC machine in the CAM system.
